we have successfully avoided advertising, but we are no longer able to keep the website completely advertising free while continuing to develop new features. We appreciate your understanding as we make these changes, and promise that ad revenue will go directly toward development of useful new features and innovative content. We will provide a completely ad-free version of the site for anyone who makes a donation of $5 or more to Wordsmyth.

Our suite of dictionary-thesaurus resources now includes The Wordsmyth Beginner's Dictionary-Thesaurus. This new work has very easy-to-read entries written with a simple defining vocabulary of 2000 words. Select the Beginner level on the left side of your screen to see entries from the Beginner Dictionary.
The Children's and Beginner's Dictionaries have simpler definitions than the Advanced Dictionary, but they also contain fewer words and fewer definitions. But now, thanks to our new "smart dictionary" features, you don't need to worry that selecting a lower level dictionary will result in not finding the word you're looking for! We have integrated our three dictionaries so that if you look up a word in the Children's or Beginner's Dictionary that is not included at that level, the system will automatically show you the word at a higher level.
In addition, any time you look up a word, you can see which other levels contain definitions for it, so you can move effortlessly to a simpler or more advanced level! Basically, we want you to be able to select the reading level you feel most comfortable with but to always know that the definitions from the other levels are right there at your fingertips.
Click here to share your feedback on what you see and what you'd like to see in the coming months.
Thanks,
The Wordsmyth Team
