intervention

1. the act of intervening.
He married her despite his parents’ attempt at intervention.

2. an intervening or interference by one nation in the affairs of another, as with military force.
If the civil conflict continues to escalate in that country, a military intervention may be the only way to stop the slaughter of civilians.

3. a planned attempt, in the form of a surprise confrontation, to convince someone to stop, or seek help for, a self-destructive behavior, such as addiction.

2. the body of Jews living outside of Israel.
3. a scattering of any people with a common culture, or the body of people thus scattered.
These former Soviet Republics reduced corruption by appointing members of the diaspora to leadership positions.
