transitive verb
definition 1:  to suppose (something) to be true without evidence; take for granted.
example:  It was four o’clock Monday afternoon, so I assumed she was still at work.
example:  I assumed that he could answer my calculus question because he had been a math professor.

definition 2:  to take on, as a duty, role, or appearance.
example:  She assumed the burden of caring for his aging mother without complaining.
example:  The ghost assumed bodily form.
