definition 1:  a person who is related to others through blood or marriage.
example:  Only his aunt, his cousin, and a few other relatives attended the funeral.

definition 2:  something that is dependent on something else for its specific form or meaning. (Cf. absolute.)
example:  Happiness is a relative:  the same set of circumstances may bring happiness at one time in one’s life  and dissatisfaction at another.

adjective
definition 1:  meaningful only in relation to something else. (Cf. absolute.)
example:  Some people argue that moral standards are relative.
example:  How large an object appears is relative to how far away one is while viewing it.
