an electric cell in which the force of the current changes according to the variations of light or other radiation falling on it; electric eye. |
| photovoltaic cell |
a cell that produces electromotive force when it is exposed to radiation, esp. light; solar cell. |
| primary cell |
a battery cell in which electric current is generated by an irreversible electrochemical reaction, and which therefore cannot be recharged efficiently. |

a cell in the blood that carries oxygen to the body's tissues. |
| selenium cell |
a photoconductive cell made by placing a thin strip of selenium between two metal electrodes. |
| sickle cell anemia |
a hereditary form of anemia caused by the presence of abnormal sickle-shaped red blood cells and abnormal hemoglobin, resulting in abdominal pain and leg ulcers. |
